I use a wireless mouse, and since opening menus pauses the game it doesn't bother me to grab my wireless tracball for menu scrolling, but I see your point that some might not find this acceptable being as it isn't "exactly" like the Xbox version. I do see your point about the menus though, you'll want to still use a mouse. Not "exactly" like the Xbox experience, but not clunky or odd, IMHO. I originally played Morrowind on the original Xbox and once I set it up in the options menu on PC, it works great.
I do, however completely disagree with " Morrowind is not really playable with a gamepad since there is no proper interface controll." Note: If you do use JoyToKey, be sure you disable "Enable Joystick" as you'll be emulating kb/mouse. So yeah, set it to "D" for DirectInput to play old games.or use JoyToKey. But you know, whatever floats yer boat )ĮDIT: I corrected my original post, "The Mechanic" had it right, I had it wrong, thereby making this post seem backwards.ĭoh! You're right, I did write it exactly backwards. You you are better using mouse and keyboard in my opinion. Most likely the Standard MW usesĪnyway whatever is used a F710 would handle it ) However Morrowind is not really playable with a gamepad since there is no proper interface controll as far as I no. Originally posted by TheMechanist:DirectInput= Old Standard. You can look around, move and everything else just like the original Xbox version with this after you set it up.Īlso, you can just plug your XInput gamepad in and select "enable joystick" in the Option menu, but you won't be able to look around with the right stick ( you can only look left and right with the rudders).
This allows you to emulate your Mouse and Keyboard with your gamepad. Select "D" ( DirectInput) for Morrowind (and other "old" games). These have a little switch that lets you select DirectX or DirectInput. The 20 dollar option ( sometimes cheaper) is to buy a Logitech F 310 ( or the F 710 wireless). I have it set up so that when holding the xbox home button, moving the right stick moves the mouse and the right trigger does a left click. It's good, but controller support is better through steam or as a custom game in steam. What this means is that some things won't map exactly correctly with your newer ( Xinput) controller. Steam controller is perfectly viable as well. It does have native support, but the game was built using an older version of DirectX, ( DirectInput not Xinput). thing that doesn't hapen with a controller.Yes and No. I had used keyboard and mouse for years, and I can sure tell I preffer controller, I can aim much better with it than the mouse, and you're right about the keyboard access, but (this only happens with me I guess) If I have more buttons than fingers to press, I have to look down to the keyboard, and that is just enough time to get myself killed up in the screen. Just try using mouse and keyboard more often and you to will find it's far superior to a gamepad.
plus you can change any of the controls to your liking. However, I have learned that the mouse makes moving the camera much smoother than a joystick and keyboards allow access to controls you might not even knew existed on console versions of games such as hotkeys, quicksaves, lean etc. Trust me I used to hate aiming with a mouse or using a keyboard in PC games because I was so used to a controller.
